Equipment Rental and Revolving Division

The Mechanic Shop is an invaluable part of the Equipment Division. The shop is responsible for the maintenance of the county fleet, including maintenance of the Skagit County Search and Rescue and for several other reimbursable customers.

Preventative maintenance is an integral part of the shop’s operations. All drivers are asked to communicate with the shop staff to coordinate regular maintenance, repairs, and services.

Our shop consists of a 10-bay shop.

• Two 4post lifts (14,000lbs and 18,000lbs), one 80,000lbs lift, and one 2post lift.
• Welding | Fabrication bay - tire room - hydraulic hose room - oil room - and the parts room

Central Stores is responsible for maintaining an adequate supply of inventoried items for the Public Works Road Division and mechanic shop.

Central Stores purchases, stores, issues, and performs physical inventory counts of items on an ongoing basis. Our Central Stores oversees monthly and annually inventory of all supplies, parts, fuel, road oil, and tack.

These items include, but are not limited to asphalt, culvert, traffic paint, traffic beads, guardrail, lubricants, various mechanical parts, and tools.

The Equipment Division is responsible for managing our fuel through a card lock system at Pacific Pride provided by Nelson Reisner.

The county started this card lock system with Pacific Pride in October 2020 and as of 2026 have locked into another 3year contract with Nelson Reisner.

The card lock system is monitored closely and reconciled monthly to ensure proper usage through our Central Services department.

The Equipment Division still maintains the storage tanks at the old county fuel stations and is required to hold a valid license for the underground storage tanks at these three locations:

• Road Maintenance Facility in Burlington
• Sheriff’s Office in Mount Vernon
• Concrete Shop in Concrete

The Equipment Division maintains the inventory of all the mined stockpiles in all the Pits & Quarries owned by Skagit County. With the inventory control system, the Equipment Division tracks the materials requested and used by other County departments.

The Equipment Division works closely with the Surface Water Division to obtain and maintain all the necessary permits. (Example: State of Washington Mining Permit)

The Equipment Division handles Skagit County surplus. Surplus items items such as cars, trucks, boats, office furniture, office supplies, and office machinery.

The Equipment Division goes into contract with a professional auction company to sell the county surplus at least once and sometimes twice a year. Each year before going to auction the Board of County Commissioners will hold a public hearing to officially declare what is going to be surplused.
