Important changes to abandoned property law
Museums are no longer required to post abandoned property notices in local papers. Museums can now post these notices on our website.
Due to this change, we created a section titled Collection’s Notices where all claims are available for you to view.
To view the notices, go to the Historical Museum section of the website and open the Collections Notices page. This will take you to the Collections Notices webpage where you can see all current notices.

Skagit County Historical Museum photo identification project
Do you want to be a part of preserving and sharing history?
We have acquired thousands of images and need your help in identifying them.
The photos were taken by Bill Forman. He was a commercial photographer in Mount Vernon. Dates on the envelopes range from the 1920s to the 1950s.
There is a wide range of subject matter. The photos include insurance claim photos of dented cars, Skagit County Fair royalty, weddings, exterior and interior photos of businesses, dance recitals, and football games. There are photos of car crashes, and even one of a woman with her pet fox.
We need your help. We will post a set of photos each month. Our goal is to identify as many as possible, enter them into our museum software, and make them accessible to you.

Skagit City School Experience
Skagit County Historical Museum education program
Location: Skagit City School, 17508 Moore Rd., Mount Vernon, WA 98273
Skagit City School Experience is available Monday through Friday between 9:30 am and 3:00 pm, by appointment only.
The event generally lasts 4.5 hours, including a sack lunch break. You need to bring your own lunch.
