Prosecuting Attorney
Criminal Division
- Advises law enforcement agencies on legal and investigative matters.
- Determines if the office should file criminal charges against a person.
- Prosecutes criminal cases in District Court, Juvenile Court, and Superior Court, and represents the State in all criminal appeals.
- Provides assistance to you if you are a victim of crime.
Civil Division
- Defends the County in suits filed against it.
- Files civil actions to enforce County ordinances.
- Provides legal advice to all County departments, department heads, and elected officials.
- Represents the State in mental health and other civil commitment proceedings.
- Reviews contracts and agreements to which the County is a party.
Victim and Witness Division
The Victim Witness Division provides information, vital support and advocacy to victims and witnesses of crime in Skagit County. Our division is comprised of three full-time advocates and one part-time advocate who work cooperatively with prosecutors, law enforcement, and other agencies in order to help victims and witnesses of crime proceed through the legal process.
Family Support Division
- Defends the Division of Child Support in its efforts to collect child support.
- Establishes paternity so the State can collect child support payments.
- Handles only matters referred by the Division of Child Support.
- Monitors support orders for compliance.
- Obtains court orders that require non-supporting parents to make support payments.
- Represents the State in proceedings to modify orders.
