About Probation
The Community Supervision (Probation) Unit provides supervision and support to youth involved in Juvenile Court. Probation staff work with youth and families to provide appropriate rehabilitative services and programs that promote accountability, positive change, community safety, and successful outcomes.
Probation services include several types of supervision and support based on the youth’s individual needs and court-ordered requirements.
Community Supervision
The purpose of community supervision is to hold youth accountable for their actions while engaging them in the process of making positive changes. The goal is for youth to leave the juvenile justice system better equipped to make positive decisions and avoid future involvement in the justice system.
Community supervision may include:
• Addressing the needs of victims and completing restitution when ordered.
• Repairing harm to the community through accountability activities.
• Developing skills and competencies that reduce the likelihood of future offenses.
• Connecting youth and families with appropriate services and resources.
Depending on the youth’s individual needs and court orders, probation supervision may include rehabilitative services such as counseling, treatment, skills training, and educational planning. Accountability requirements may include community service, restitution, and confinement when ordered by the court.
Special Sex Offender Disposition Alternative Supervision
Special Sex Offender Disposition Alternative (SSODA) is a community-based disposition option that provides youth with specialized treatment and supervision while addressing public safety concerns. SSODA allows eligible youth to receive treatment and remain in the community under court-ordered conditions and supervision rather than immediately serving time at JR institution.
SSODA provides up to two years of treatment and supervision, and addresses the underlying behaviors and issues associated with the offense, promote accountability, reduce the risk of future offending, and support the youth’s successful completion of treatment and supervision requirements.
Chemical Dependency Mental Health Disposition Alternative Supervision
The Chemical Dependency Mental Health Disposition Alternative (CMDA) is a specialized program that provides treatment and supervision instead of traditional confinement for young offenders who have substance use or mental health disorders.
