Marriage Licenses

Applying for a marriage license:

• In-Person - Monday - Friday, 8:30am - 4:00pm. Marriage license forms and affidavits are available in our office lobby.
  
  
• Cost - $164.00. An additional $3.00 is required if you need a certified copy (this is optional). You can pay for your license using Cash, Cashiers Check, or Card ($2.00 fee for debit and 2.49% fee for credit). NO PERSONAL CHECKS ACCEPTED FOR MARRIAGE APPLICATIONS.
  
  
• Both parties must sign the completed affidavit. This affidavit must be signed in front of a Deputy Auditor in our office OR notarized by a Notary Public.
  
  
• Marriage licenses are not valid until the third full day after the applications is issued and payment is verified by the Auditor's Office. Example: If the application is issued on Monday the 1st, the first day it can be used is Thursday, the 4th. Contact our office to confirm receipt of online/mailed applications and payments.
  
  
• Marriage licenses are VOID if not solemnized within 60 days of the valid date.
  
  
• Neither a witness or blood test is required to obtain a marriage license.

Who is authorized to perform marriages?

State law (RCW 26.04.050) says who can perform marriage ceremonies. The following people, active or retired, can perform marriage ceremonies:

• Judges of the Supreme Court, Court of Appeals, Superior Court, District Court, Municipal Court and other courts of limited jurisdiction (RCW 3.02.020).
• Commissioners of the Supreme Court, Court of Appeals and Superior Court.
• Licensed or ordained official of any religious organization.

Washington State does not license officials of any religious organization. Officials of religious organizations from any state may perform ceremonies. Couples may not officiate their own wedding.
