We truly enjoy our interaction with our constituents, and we look forward to working with you to provide basic Public Works services; improve infrastructure, help navigate a confusing bureaucracy, and tackle challenging Public Works issues.
The Engineering Division houses three section teams: Design and Construction, Transportation Programs, and Development Review.
These teams work collaboratively to secure funding, design, and construct projects, gather information for required reporting, and complete development and right-of-way permit reviews.
The Equipment Rental & Revolving Fund (ER&R) supports County operations by providing reliable, safe, and cost-effective vehicles, equipment, materials, and services to County departments. The Equipment Division owns, maintains, and manages a diverse fleet that includes road maintenance machinery, trucks, cars, trailers, and other specialized equipment used by County employees to conduct official County business.
The Ferry Division provides efficient, reliable vehicle and passenger transit service between Anacortes and Guemes Island. The current vessel, the M/V GUEMES, is a 21-vehicle, 99-passenger, diesel-powered ferry that was built and put into service in 1979. Today, the ferry operates 365 days a year and transports roughly 200,000 vehicles and 400,000 passengers annually.
The Operations Division maintains 799.874 miles of roadway throughout Skagit County, along with traffic and pedestrian services, storm drainage systems, bridges, and other transportation infrastructure. These assets are maintained with the goal of keeping them as close to their original condition as possible while extending their useful life and ensuring safe, reliable travel for the public.
The Solid Waste Division provides municipal and household solid waste disposal for the citizens of Skagit County.
Solid waste or garbage is hauled by rail to Roosevelt Regional Landfill in Klickitat County. Recycled materials which are collected separately at three sites are transported to a variety of local companies for further processing.
Accounting
The Administrative Division is comprised of accounting and reception. Accounting supports Public Works, while the reception team is dedicated to providing excellent customer service to the citizens of Skagit County. Accounting staff provide financial, personal, and government accounting compliance support for all Public Works Divisions,
