Schools and Organized Camps

You must apply for a school site review before submitting plans for a new school site.

A site review is not required for remodel projects at a currently occupied school.

Every K-12 school must apply for a plan review before beginning a project to:

• Construct new buildings (except for general office or maintenance structures)
• Remodel or expand existing classrooms & school buildings
• Convert a general-purpose classroom into a laboratory, CTE class, or similar major change in purpose
• Add or remove playground equipment

New and remodeled cafeterias and similar food service spaces must apply for a Food Establishment Plan Review. The Food Establishment plan review will be conducted separately from the school facility plan review.

For general health & safety concerns at schools, such as a playground hazard, pest issues in a classroom, or similar issues, please contact the Environmental Health Program by phone or by filling out our online reporting form.

If you have concerns about a possible food borne illness as the school, please follow the reporting procedures for a concern at a food service establishment.
