Transition services help students ages 14–22 with disabilities prepare for life after high school, including employment, education, housing, finances and independent living.
While school districts provide transition services, the Developmental Disabilities Program helps students and families connect with services and resources they may need after leaving school.
Transition Programs
Our community offers several options for transition programming:
ATTIC through Washington Vocational Services focuses on independent living and employment skills, including exploring career options and developing workplace skills.
INVEST through Skagit Valley College provides a supported college experience for students interested in post-secondary education. Students can take college courses with accommodations and earn a certificate upon completion.
School based transition programming may be provided on the high school campus, depending on the individual needs of each student.
Talk with your special education teacher to determine which option best fits your student's goals.
Bridges Program
The Developmental Disabilities Program also offers Bridges for students enrolled in a transition program.
The primary purpose of the Bridges Program is to connect students with supported employment providers who will assist the student in navigating applications for necessary services, as well as to help the student identify employment goals, develop a person-centered plan and connect with agencies that can provide long-term employment and community supports after graduation.
The program helps students and families understand and access resources that support a successful transition to adulthood.
