If I have a DUI, can I still work at the Jail?

Yes, under most circumstances.
What does the background check consist of?
You will be required to have a polygraph, a psychological evaluation, and a physical (at the Sheriff’s Office expense). It really sounds much worse than it is. There will also be a background investigator checking your references and previous employers.
What if I have bad credit or a bankruptcy?
Yes, under most circumstances.
Does having a criminal record automatically disqualify me?
We require that all applicants disclose any convictions of felony crimes, as well as misdemeanor crimes. The existence of criminal history does not automatically disqualify you from applying or receiving a job offer.
Exception: Persons convicted of a felony are not eligible.
How long is the corrections academy?
The academy is approximately 4 weeks long. You will live on campus during the week and drive home for the weekends. The County pays you and for you to go to the academy. Typically, we get corrections deputies into the academy within 6 months of your start date.
What is most important when writing my personal statement?
Read the instructions, be thorough and truthful. You will be eliminated from the process if it is discovered that you falsified your PHS.
