Skagit County to Celebrate Completion of East County Bridge Projects

The Skagit County Commissioners are excited to announce the reopening of the Marblemount Bridge and the completion of a temporary bridge over Jordan Creek, reestablishing important access points for east county residents. In recognition of these two important projects, the County Commissioners will be hosting a ribbon cutting event at the Marblemount Bridge on Thursday, October 29, at 10:00 a.m.

The Marblemount Bridge underwent significant rehabilitation work to extend the life of the 96-year-old bridge, with the project being fully funded through an $18.5M Federal Highway Administration grant. The temporary bridge over Jordan Creek was installed after the December 2025 flood cut through approximately 70-feet of roadway next to the previous bridge on Rockport Cascade Road. The temporary bridge is funded through reimbursement from the Federal Emergency Management Administration (FEMA).

The ribbon-cutting event will include remarks from project supporters, county staff, design team, and other community stakeholders to recognize the significant work undertaken to finish these two projects. The event is free and open to the public. The celebration will be held in the U.S. Forest Service parking lot just east of the Marblemount Bridge.

Marblemount Rehabilitation Background

Skagit County Public Works contracted with Stellar J Corporation in the spring of 2025 to complete a repair and maintenance overhaul project for the Marblemount bridge. The bridge is 96 years old and was under a weight restriction requiring it be limited to one lane traffic.

The bridge had a failing paint system, structurally deficient truss elements and gusset plates, pack rust in many connections in the steel floor system, missing fasteners, leaking joints, and delaminated patches in the bridge deck. The maintenance project extends the life of the bridge and removes the load posting returning the structure to two lane traffic, while still preserving its historical importance in the area.

Jordan Creek Bridge Background

Jordan Creek experienced a log jam just upstream of Rockport Cascade Road during the December 2025 flood events. The creek then diverted around the west bridge abutment and cut through approximately 70 feet of roadway. On April 11, 2026, the Federal Emergency Management Administration (FEMA) announced Skagit County would be eligible for public disaster funds for repairs needed from the December floods. These funds can be used to reimburse the County for the construction and leasing costs of the temporary bridge over Jordan Creek.

Skagit County contracted with Franklin Pacific to install a temporary Acrow bridge over the damaged section of Rockport Cascade Road and Jordan Creek. The temporary bridge can be used for as long as the County needs until a permanent bridge structure can be designed, funded, and built. The FEMA federal disaster declaration will allow the County to continue working towards a permanent bridge design and construction; however, this will take several years to complete.
